What Happened to Accuro Medical?

We are occasionally asked about Accuro Medical. They ran into some problems with their negative pressure wound therapy vacuum pump. In the process of decontaminating the unit after use, typically the unit was sprayed down with a disinfectant. This liquid tended to seep into the unit and would sometimes cause problems with the circuit board and internal electronics. For this reason the FDA got involved and required them to provide a fix for the problem. In spite of having a great product, the company decided they did not want to absorb the re-engineering and re-approval process expenses and instead closed the company.

The patents and engineering assets were purchased by Pensar Medical. They re-engineered the product, regained FDA approval, and re-introduced the product to the market rebranded as Pensar WoundPro. In addition to correcting the moisture problem, they also made improvements to the unit's programming and provided other improvements which increased the longevity of the product. Pensar also reintroduced the NPWT foam dressing kits and ancillary products.
